Baby's Room is Finished!

Well, here is best all around view I can give you of Baby's room. I finished hanging and organizing everything Friday morning. We also rearranged our room this past weekend to accommodate the bassinet where Baby will start sleeping for awhile. I spared you those pictures though, not nearly as exciting or cute. Yes, it feels like we need a bigger house after setting up all the baby stuff but I think we will be able to manage. So, we are now ready and waiting for Baby!!!

Baby Shower Part 2

Last Saturday my friend Lori had a small gathering (3 of my close friends and their families) at her house for my second baby shower. It was just an intimate affair with good friends, yummy bites to eat, sitting out on the deck and some cool evening weather for a change, and more baby presents!

Lori's daughter Hannah set up a baby shower game for us to play and we had to taste 8 disguised baby foods and guess what they were. It was very interesting and the food for the most part was pretty yucky. I am not sure if I can remember all of them but let's see...I think they included green beans, peas (the worst! except K actually liked it), squash, pears, peaches, bananas, prunes, and another one which must not have been that memorable. I got 3 wrong and Keshav only got 2 right. He was having fun though and was the only guy to participate, so bonus points for him. Guess he got forced into it since he is the daddy after all. But, he is always up for some fun. I got the honor of going first, then my friends Barbara, Anne, and Lori went. None of the kids would do it, so Keshav got roped in and I got to feed him. It was good practice for me right, and quite fun. Everyone had great expressions on their faces after tasting each food item. Some of them pretty awful, especially after the peas!

Here are some of the exciting moments from the shower:

EXCITING NEWS: My cousin Heather had her baby today and he is 10lbs 3ounces and 21 inches long!! His name is Grant Wayne Likes. Congrats to her and her Husband Carter! Now we know why she was so huge (sorry Heather) and I know she is very happy to be at the end of her pregnancy!

Sonogram at 36 weeks

I went for my 36 week check up on Friday and here is the the sonogram picture. It is not very clear but the big circle on the right is the head the face sort of on the top left. Then, to the left, that small circle is the hand. Baby is getting a little too big to capture a good picture of I guess. But, all is well, baby is in good position and did not go back to breech, yeah. My midwife said Baby is about 6lbs and could potentially gain a pound a week until due. If you do your math you will realize that would be a 9lb baby!!! Yikes! I told her I wanted a smaller baby than that and she said she wouldn't be able to help me there.

So, 4 weeks to go, depending on when Baby decides to make an appearance. Lots of movement these days still but it has changed since Baby is bigger and feels like the whole body is moving. And sometimes those kicks are rather unpleasant!

We also did the final big shopping trip and are now pretty much totally ready (if that is at all possible) for Baby's arrival. We got the car seat, 2 strollers (the first of many according to our friends -much to K's dismay), the crib mattress, and other goodies you just can't pass up when in the baby store. K installed the car seat but not nearly tight enough. I took it to the Ashburn fire station and they did an awesome job making it very, very tight. How we will ever replicate that, I am not sure. So, now that the car seat is in, I am calm. Not that I thought Baby was going to arrive 4 weeks early but I was on the phone with my cousin Heather and told her we did not have the car seat yet. She just laughed and said that is the most important thing. I was then reassured that all this time my priorities were not right when saving the car seat until the last! But, now it is in the car, we can have the baby!

Anyway, all is well for now with Baby and us too...more updates soon.

Check out the "subscribe now" section to the left. You can now get email updates when I add new posts to the blog.

34 week check up!

I always seem to be a week behind on these posts, because I am really at 35 weeks now! But, I wanted to post this and say Baby must have done one of those flips and was no longer breech at the 34 week appointment! Yeah! Hopefully Baby decides that is a nice position to be in and stays that way. It also gives me a better perspective as to where the body parts are now...those are feet kicking on the upper top right, got it! Also the hiccups continue, and they are way down low where the head is.

I am getting a bit more tired now and the heat is a killer. I don't think I have ever thought the heat was this suffocating before. I love to be outside, not this year. If I have a day where I don't have to go even to the car, I am happy. Course, it feels like it is the dog days of August already when I was hoping to miss those days seeing Baby should arrive before then. My luck that summer came on fast with those 90 degree temps this year.

Our friends visited from NYC last weekend and we had a blast. Luckily enough, we had really nice weather, not the crushing heat I was mentioning above. We spent Saturday afternoon at a winery and then headed into DC for some Ethiopian food Saturday night. Baby is getting lots of variety to eat these days! And yes, I have now been to a winery without drinking the wine. It wasn't as unpleasant as I thought. I just stuck to my sparkling lemonade and just enjoyed the food.

The one great thing about summer though is the fresh fruit and veggies!! I must say that watermelon and corn have never tasted SO good! I am just waiting for the tomatoes to come in then all will be complete with my diet for the rest of the summer.

I will be having the 36 week, and last, sonogram this Friday before delivery. If we get some good pictures I will post one and let you know how Baby is doing. We should be able to find out about how big Baby is and how all is progressing as we get closer to the big arrival. Until then...

8 Months!

Well, I am really about 81/2 months as I write this (34 weeks) but the pictures below are from a couple of weeks ago. I think since then, I have gotten even bigger. I can really tell the baby is going through a big growth spurt right now. I included the picture with my belly exposed for effect, you can't really tell in the others just how big my belly is now. Baby should be an average of 5lbs now, but each is different. This is the time of growth where the baby is putting on lots of fat and I heard it you over eat during this time your baby can really put those fat layers on!

Last time I went to the midwife, Baby was breech. That was not good news! So, I am hoping when I go back that Baby has been active enough to flip over. I have been doing every yoga pose I know to help Baby turn plus walking and swimming. I had to give up spinning a couple of weeks ago, just too tiring and uncomfortable. I never thought the day would come that I would think the last thing I want to do is get on a bike! Well, never say never! Swimming is so great though because when you get in the water, you don't even feel like you have that great big belly anymore. Course, when you come out of the pool and see yourself in a swimsuit, you are quickly reminded that you are indeed huge.

Speaking of baby activity, there is lots of it. Not just kicking anymore, but movement of all sorts. Lets hope some of those are flips. It is hard to tell just exactly what is going on in there. I read all these women talking about exactly what position their baby is in, where the feet and shoulders are. I don't seem to be that in tune with it and am not sure where baby parts are. Lots of movement though and the pattern continues that Baby is very active at night. A mom at my baby storytime was telling me that babies establish a sleeping pattern very similar to the one they will have after being born. Guess if that is the case, I will be up all night! Baby also gets hiccups frequently, that I did figure out. Very cute!

Baby listens to lots of music. A friend sent me some Brazilian and African Lullabies and I have also been trying some classical music. Also, we read Goodnight Moon every night.

So, that is what is going on with us. Check out the 8 month pictures and I will post some more when 9 months rolls around very soon...

Finally the Crib is Up!

Well, I should really say...finally I am writing on the blog. K put the crib together about 3 weeks ago and it has taken ME that long to transfer the pictures and update the blog. Sorry for the delay. Getting a little tired here...

So, as I said about a month ago, we finalized the crib and bought it but it would not fit in the car. And, we are too cheap to pay the 75 dollar delivery fee. So, we borrowed our friends suv and brought it home. I refuse to buy an suv just because we are having a baby although seeing all the things babies seem to require (I use that term loosely), I guess it could be useful. I still refuse! Anyway, we got it home and of course I can't lift a darn thing so K had to take the whole thing, piece by piece, out of the box and carry it in that way. I do find the part of pregnancy about not being able to lift things a pain!

That was a Saturday evening, and the plan was to put it together Sunday but K get invited to go the Nationals game - yes, to see our superb baseball team. So, a week later he did get to it and after all the anticipation that it would be difficult and time consuming...it was really a piece of cake to put together. K is becoming quit the handyman (another term used loosely). So, here are the pictures of him in action and a sneak peak of the crib.

When I get the whole room together I will take pictures and it will all then come together for you. Enjoy, I will have more posts to catch you up with what has been going on in the next few days!!

Are we having a boy???

I have now had three dreams we are having a boy. Two of them were earlier on in my pregnancy but just had another one a couple of nights ago. The one I had most recently, Baby was talking immediately and in one of the earlier ones Baby came out crawling! So, I wouldn't wage any bets based on the dream predictions!

Tomorrow is 7 months and it is hard to believe how fast the time is passing. We took a tour of the hospital last week and it seems like a very nice place. They even have valet parking during regular day hours - pretty cool. Baby is starting to kick more and stronger. I can tell Baby is growing not only by how big my belly is getting but I am feeling more short of breath (pressing on my lungs) and getting major indigestion!

I think I can order the crib today so Keshav will have another project! So, we can finally get the room set up properly. Look for pictures of that soon.

Getting Ready for Baby

Last week my mom visited and we shopped until we dropped. I mean that literally of course, seeing that I am starting to get a little more tired these days. I generally need naps every afternoon (except when I am working - although I am at work wishing I was taking a nap!) especially after a busy day out shopping. Keshav painted Baby's room a couple of weeks ago, which my mom was originally planning to help with. That worked out well because we got to spend more time shopping and decorating. The color of the room is called mint truffle. When I first saw it I thought it was a bit bright. But it toned down after drying and we love it now. It also is beautiful with the room decor I picked out.
We started Wednesday night at the big consignment sale not very far from home a friend told me about and we actually found some good buys, even brand new stuff. The next day we hit baby's r us and started buying room and crib decor (and anything else that caught our eye). Unfortunately, the crib K and I finally decided upon after many shopping trips, more than enough reviews read, and deliberation is out of stock. We are not sure when it comes in. But, needless to say, my mom and I did not have any problem finding plenty of other goodies to bring home. My mom started her "going nuts" phase of expecting the first grandchild!! We also hit the fabric store and found some cute baby prints for baby blankets and a sling she is going to make for Baby.
Baby's room started coming together after our first shopping trip. We put up the window valence and put in place all the new items. Of course, one trip to babies r us was not enough so we went back for round two and finished up getting the crib bedding and some closet organizing stuff. Now we just need the crib!!! Here are some new photos - a couple of us, I am now 6 and half months, and some sneak previews of Baby's room. Oh, and I stuck our other babies in as well.

Seeing Blossoms at 6 months

K and I went to see the cherry blossoms in DC this past weekend. They are out a bit early this year. Baby also came along as he/she always does now (isn't that how it will be from now on??) but not as concealed as before. My belly is definitely getting bigger and these pictures really show Baby off. Take a look...

5 Months and Kicking

Baby is kicking and has been for about 3-4 weeks. It started very lightly but is growing stronger each week. Baby is constantly reminding me of his/her existence and already demanding attention, especially at night. Like I said, the kicks were light to start, so light Keshav was never able to feel the kicking until just last week. Every time I would feel it start and he was near, I would get him to try and feel it and no matter what Baby would stop!! But, finally in a quiet moment last week, we got Baby to stop being so shy around daddy and his/her presence was physically felt beyond mom and baby!

Here I am 5 months pregnant:

First Baby Picture!

We had the sonogram during week 19. I am writing this during the 24th week so this blog is a little delayed. The baby was healthy and determined to still be making an appearance around July 21 according to measurements. Baby was very busy in the womb that day, some investigation by the tech took some persistance. He said he could tell the sex but as many of you know we are not finding out as we want it to be a surprise on the day Baby arrives. This picture is one of many the tech took, but it is my favorite.

Here is a sneak preview of Baby:
